Job Categories

What are Job Categories?

Job categories are custom labels you create to organise your jobs by type of work. For example: "Split System Install", "Ducted Install", "Service Call", "Maintenance", "Repair".

They help you:

  • Filter and find jobs quickly by work type
  • Control review automation — only send review requests for certain job types
  • Keep things organised as your job list grows

Managing Categories

To add, edit, or remove job categories:

  1. Go to Settings > Job Preferences
  2. Click the Job Categories tab
  3. From here you can:
    • Add a new category with the "+ Add Category" button
    • Edit an existing category name by clicking the pencil icon
    • Reorder categories by dragging them — this sets the display order in dropdowns across the app
    • Delete categories you no longer need

Categories are specific to your business. Each business manages their own set.

Assigning Categories to Jobs

When creating or editing a job, you'll see a Category dropdown in the job details form. Select the appropriate category for the type of work.

Categories are optional — you don't have to assign one to every job if you don't need to.

Categories and Review Automation

Job categories integrate with the automated review system. You can configure your review automation rules to only trigger for specific job categories.

For example, you might want to request Google reviews after "Split System Install" jobs but not after "Warranty Repair" jobs.

To set this up:

  1. Go to Settings > Automations
  2. In the review automation settings, find Job Categories
  3. Select which categories should trigger review requests
  4. Leave empty to trigger for all categories

Tips

Keep categories broad. A handful of well-named categories is more useful than dozens of overly specific ones. Think about the types of work your team does most often.

Good examples:

  • Split System Install
  • Ducted Install
  • Service / Maintenance
  • Repair
  • Commercial

Avoid:

  • Overly specific names like "Daikin Split 2.5kW Bedroom Install" — that level of detail belongs in the job description, not the category.

Common Questions

What happens if I delete a category? The category is removed from any jobs that were using it. Those jobs won't have a category assigned anymore, but no other data is affected.

Can I rename a category? Yes. Editing a category name updates it everywhere — on all existing jobs that use it.

Do categories show on invoices or quotes? No. Categories are internal organisational tools. They don't appear on any customer-facing documents.
